SNOW REMOVAL POLICY

Snow removal must be done such that it does not impede traffic by being left in the road way nor shall it be placed to cause a nuisance to neighbouring properties by causing an unwanted snow build up in drive or walk ways.

Implementation and Enforcement

At the beginning of each calender year, the Towns snow removal policy will be advertised on the local community television channel as well as in the local newspaper. This will provide residents with adequate notice of our policy and the implications for non compliance. This will be executed once per month for the months of January, February, and March if required.

In the event that a resident is throwing snow in the road way such that it impedes traffic or causes a dangerous situation, the local detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police shall be contacted to enforce the highway traffic act. If in the event that public notification has not been made as described above, residents will be contacted verbally or in writing by the Town prior to contacting the RCMP.

In the event that a resident is removing snow from their property and placing it off of the road surface but in such a manner that it creates a nuisance for neighbouring properties, the following will occur:
• a letter will be sent to the resident creating the nuisance informing them that they are not in compliance with Town policy and outlining the action that will be taken
• should the nuisance continue, a picture of the nuisance will be taken and put on file at the Town office. Town employees then will remove the snow such that the problem is corrected. The resident causing the problem will then be billed for the work provided by the Town at a base rate of $70 per hour billed in half hour increments. A minimum charge of $70 will be levied. If this is not paid, it will become a debt accruing interest after 30 days and then collected as per our collection policy.
