 Fred Best
Fred Best, a native of Wesleyville, has lived in Clarenville since 1965
After spending 2 years teaching at the Clarenville High School, he became principal of the Clarenville Elementary School, a position he held for 26 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education from Memorial University of Newfoundland. 

Since 1977, he has been active in Municipal Politics in Clarenville. First elected to Council that year, he became Deputy Mayor. In 1981 he was elected Mayor and is now serving his sixth consecutive term in that capacity. In the last five elections, he has been elected by acclamation four times. Having previously served a four year term on the Wesleyville Town Council, he is now one of the Veterans of Newfoundland Municipal Politics. In addition, Fred has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Municipalities for 12 years and is also the chairperson with the Municipal Assessment Agency. As well, he has served 10 years as a director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Municipal Employees Inc., a group responsible for the Insurance and Pension Plan for Municipal Employees.

He is an active member of the Clarenville Lions Club and has been recognized as a 45 year member. During the past twenty years he has served a four-year term as Chairman, of the G. B. Cross Hospital Board and was a Director of the Clarenville Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. He serves as a director with the Alpine Development Association, an independent group responsible for the operation of the White Hills Ski Resort.

Since living in Clarenville, Fred has been involved in a multitude of other community activities. In 2003 he helped organize the "Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion Campaign" in Clarenville and now serves on the board for the annual event.

An active member of the Clarenville United Church, he has served on a number of the boards of the church and is presently a member of the Board of Management. On the local scene as well, he was a member of the Clarenville Area Recreation Association for four years and was a member of the Clarenville Minor Hockey Association for ten years, serving in various capacities. Fred and his wife, the former Louise Pynn of New Chelsea, Trinity Bay, have two children Joanne who lives in Twillingate and Shawn, in Clarenville. He is also grandfather to three special grandchildren Victoria, Emily and Samuel.

 Bill Bailey
Bill Bailey was born and raised in Shoal Harbour and has been a resident of our town since 1975. Bill is an insurance adjuster by profession. Bill serves on many service groups and committees, some of them include: Clarenville Nordic Ski Club - Trails and Huts Director 1984 - Present, Leroy Miller Award 2000 for Sports Builder of the Year; Rotary Club of Clarenville - Chair of Community Services 1990-Present, Chair of Clarenville Marina Committee; Clarenville Area Chamber of Commerce; Vista School Board Trustee. Bill also served on the Clarenville Volunteer Fire Department 1980 - 1996.

 Rod Nicholl
Rod Nicholl has completed a thirty year career as a physical educator! Eighteen years as a Physical Education and Health Consultant with the Bonavista Trinity Placentia Integrated School Board in Clarenville. He has served on many provincial and national advisory committees in the area of curriculum design and served on the National Steering Committee promoting Quality Daily Physical Education , a committee under the direction of the Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAPHERD)

Through his educational experience he has been an active coach, sport tournament organizer and Level II coaching course conductor with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) and has served as regional director on the Newfoundland Labrador High School Athletic Federation (presently known as Newfoundland Labrador School Sport).

Rod was recently selected to a Provincial Advisory Committee who were the authors of a Provincial Recreation Policy with an opportunity to examine the provincial recreation structure and to determine an effective delivery process for community sport and recreation programs.

He has been extensively involved in the promotion of community sport and recreation programs and has served in a variety of executive positions of the Clarenville Area Recreation Association From 1997 - 2005, he was elected to the Clarenville Town Council were he chaired the Community Recreation, Beautification and Environment committee.

Rod currently sits on the executive board of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador as Vice president and is a member of the Board of Governors for the Provincial Sports Hall of Fame.

He was selected Clarenville Citizen of the Year in 1988!

John Pickett
John has a Degree in Social Work from Memorial University, and is a registered Social Worker with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers. He had been employed with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador from 1974 to 1998. During that time, he worked has a Social Worker and in 1990 moved into a Management Position with the Department of Social Services. In 1998, with Government restructuring, he became an employee with Eastern Health and Community Services Board. At the present time, John is employed with Eastern Health as Manager of Long Term Care/Community Support Programs.

Since moving to Clarenville in 1980, John has been actively involved in community activities. Some of his volunteer work has been as follows: Member of the Host Committee for the 1994 Provincial Winter Games, Committee Member of local Kids Jumpstart Program, Eight years as a Town Councillor, from 1998 to 2005- Provincial Director with Sport Newfoundland and Labrador, Chairperson of the Vista Summer Games Committee for the past three years, Served on numerous Boards and Committees to promote and enhance our Town; Regional Development Board, Local Kinsmen Club & Alternative Measures Committee.

Keith Rodway
Keith grew up in Clarenville and continues to make it his home here. Like many, after high school Keith moved to St. John's to further his education. Then in 1990 Keith along with now wife Kelly, returned to join the family business. Since then, not only has he worked hard at creating a successful business, he has worked just as hard at making this a better community both socially and economically. Some of the projects he has been involved with include:

  ˇ Current Director of Clarenville Area Chamber of Commerce

  ˇ Past Director, White Hills Corporation
  ˇ Stage Coordinator Targa

Nationally, he has risen to leadership roles through trade associations as director with the Xerox National Advisory Board and a director of Office Pro, Canada's largest office products buying group.

At 41 years old, Keith has spent many of those years living in Clarenville as well as Shoal Harbour, making him well aware of the community needs. Keith's Election to the Town of Clarenville Council is a continuation of his commitment to this community.

Heber Smith
Heber Smith has been a resident of Clarenville for 48 years. He has been a member of the Council Finance, Economic Development and Emergency Measures Committees; as well as being a member of various community organizations and provincial organizations. Herber is married to his wife Carmel, and has two children Leah - 19 and Andrew - 16.
