  ISLAND COVE

Island Cove is a tiny cove situated on Cormack Drive. The site is a place of natural beauty which is a sanctuary for seagulls, robins, sparrows, Canada geese and greater yellow leg sea birds. Benches and picnic tables are placed in selected areas along the trailway to provide an unobstructed view of the ocean, the rock walls, the beaches, and the meadow of natural grasses.

This site will also see the addition of interpretive signage which will explore the historical significance of the site. They will not only tell the story of the schooner, the Lillian Baggs, which was built at Island Cove, but also the story of the Tilley smoke house and the disappearing 'art' of turning herring into kippers!

This site has been a project of the Clarenville Heritage Society.
