  ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Town of Clarenville has an Economic Development Committee consisting of three councillors and the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer. The Mayor is ex-officio.

The purpose of the committee is to provide governance, policy decisions and monitoring of all aspects of the Council’s economic development, promotion, marketing and investment opportunities and overall economic well-being of the Town.

The objectives of the Economic Development Committee are to:

» Develop and implement an economic development plan for the Town;
» Evaluate the activities of the economic development plan;
» Recommend policies to Council to strengthen and promote the economic    strength of the community;
» Encourage and facilitate investment in the Town from both existing and    new industries and business;
» Promote and encourage investment opportunities for growth of the    economy through marketing and economic development activities.

The Committee recognizes the importance of partnering with its many stakeholders and will form Working Groups with external stakeholders to work on specific projects as necessary. The committee will also liaison with all Council Committees.

The committee's work is guided by its Economic Development Plan which is available for downloading here. This plan was the recipient of a Torngat Award for Economic Development by Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador in November 2007.

One of the recommendations of the Economic Development Plan was to strike a Business-Council Working Group to review all business policies, fees and practices to ensure they are appropriate; fair and equitable; and administered as fairly, professionally, efficiently and as seamlessly as possible.  That report was released July 2007 and is available as a PDF Here
